Oregon Pillow

My brother recently moved to Houston Texas. Texas is a long way from Oregon. My parents are having a rough time. We are a tight knit bunch.

I imagine this week being a little extra difficult. My brother and his wife will celebrate a five year anniversary on Friday. My parents will celebrate a 33rd year anniversary on the same day.

Plans have been made for a quilt for the new Texas home. Some piles of fabrics exist, but not much more progress has been made. So a smaller gift is needed. Here is how I will send my love:

 Name: Oregon Misses You
Design:  Made up by me!
Quilted:  Me . . .
Size: about 18" x 18" square

I quilted the Oregon shape with a few straight-ish green lines, using two colors of thread I randomly had at home. The free motion quilted pebbles are a little interesting. It was much harder to see what I was doing on some of the busier fabric.

The backing was made following a tutorial by SVETLANA at sotakhomade. I adjusted the measurements for my 18" pillow case.

Look at the pretty corners! Seem to turn out nice when I follow recommendations. . .

Best wishes to all celebrating anniversaries this month!

Mossy Green

I love scraps of fabric. I have a very large collection. My most recent addition was a bundle of solid scraps (scrap bag) from the Fat Quarter Shop. They are lovely! I have plans for many of the colors I love . . . but what about all those 'ugly' browns and muddy greens?

I first thought of camo. You know, like hunting colors? Yes, camouflage. Some friends have treated us to elk a few times so I thought the family's son might enjoy a quilt. Maybe a St. Louis 16 patch?

Name: MAC's CADPAC
Quilted:  Me, big waves
Size: about 48"x 64" square

I did not really like the bond contrasts. The pattern was awesome. I am thinking mixing more bold prints together would make me more happy. Next time I will make a king size version for our bed.

Meanwhile I finished another brownish green quilt I have been making for my father in law. It uses a pattern called Buzzing Around.  The pattern was part of a class I took two years ago in Hood River Oregon with my good friend. Her quilt was done a few months later . . .

Name:  Hunter's Paradise
Design: Buzzing Around
Quilted:  Me, long arm, panto pattern with leaves
Size: about 60"x 71"

Doesn't this look similar to a quilt that was at Quilt Market this spring?

So what to do with my plethora of  . . . my not so much favorite color scraps? Make my first charity quilt.  Am I the only one that feels a little guilty about making a donation quilt with colors I do not like? The pattern did not really appeal to me either, but Amanda Jean's positive peer pressure influenced me to use my scraps for the good. Here is the result. And I kind of even like it  :)

Name: Moss & Mud Puddles
Design: Rail Fence tutorial from Crazy Mom Quilts
Quilted:  On my brother, what I call lazy stipple
Size: about  54"x 58"

This quilt will be donated to Margaret's Hope Chest

Thanks for visiting!
